Teacher Wentao began learning the oboe at the age of 13 and has studied for many years with renowned professors in the U.S., including Russ Deluna (solo English horn, San Francisco Symphony), Eugene Izotov (principal oboe, San Francisco Symphony), and Robert Walters (solo English horn, The Cleveland Orchestra).

He spent four summers at the Aspen Music Festival as a solo English horn fellow, and has been a finalist in several major U.S. orchestra auditions. Wentao has also performed regularly with both the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Opera.

Beyond performing, he is an experienced teacher and professional reed maker, known for his meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to helping students reach their full potential. Many of his students have earned positions in the California Youth Symphony, Golden State Symphony Orchestra, San Jose Youth Symphony, Young People’s Symphony Orchestra, Oakland Youth Orchestra, and California All-State Orchestras.
